How is LPG gas stored?

Liquified petroleum gas (LPG) is stored in a variety of ways depending on its use.

One way LPG is stored is in small, portable canisters or tanks. These canisters or tanks are often used for cooking, heating, or for operating small engines such as those found in portable grills, lanterns, and camping stoves. These canisters or tanks are typically made of metal and are designed to withstand the pressure of the LPG inside. The LPG is stored in these canisters or tanks as a liquid, but it vaporizes into a gas when it is released through the valve.

Another way LPG is stored is in larger tanks, which are often used for home heating or as a fuel source for vehicles. These tanks can be above ground or underground, and they are typically made of steel or other materials that are resistant to corrosion. The LPG is stored in these tanks as a liquid under pressure. When the LPG is needed, it is released through a valve and vaporized into a gas.

LPG can also be stored in bulk tanks, which are used by commercial and industrial customers. These tanks are similar to the larger tanks used for home heating and vehicle fuel, but they are much larger in size. They may be above ground or underground and are often located at LPG distribution facilities or on the customer's premises.

Regardless of the size or type of tank, LPG is stored under pressure in order to keep it in a liquid form. The pressure inside the tank is maintained by a pressure-relief valve, which is designed to open and release excess pressure if it builds up too high.

In addition to the pressure-relief valve, LPG tanks also have safety features such as overfill prevention valves and flame arrestors. The overfill prevention valve is designed to shut off the flow of LPG into the tank if it becomes too full, while the flame arrestor is a device that prevents flames or sparks from entering the tank and igniting the LPG.

It is important to handle LPG tanks and storage facilities with care, as LPG is a flammable and potentially explosive substance. It is important to follow all safety guidelines and regulations when handling, storing, and using LPG.
